The photo book software from UBuildABook is a fantastic application when it comes to available designs. We were pleased with the template options and embellishments, but the distributions options are limited. If you are looking to make something other than a printed photo album, this photo book software may not be the ideal choice.
This photo book software definitely has a lot of features, but it is also missing some key options. We were pleased with the layout and design options: There are a plethora of templates to choose from that vary the number of images on a page, and adding more image boxes or removing them is fairly simple. The backgrounds available are numerous, and dozens more are available for free download. We were pleased to see that there is an automatic page fill, but the results were a little disappointing when it came to the default color schemes and background the software chose. The auto-fill feature will save a lot of time, so long as the pictures you want are listed in the order you want them to appear.
One of the slightly disappointing factors is the limited choices on the photo album cover. There is a choice between hard bound and soft bound covers, but that is about all. And the only cover type available is the photo gloss. We would have liked to have seen options for leather, linen or silk covers. Also frustrating is the fact that the only way to view the photo album outside of the design layout is to have the company print it; there is no preview available. There is also only one shipping option, and they don't give any timeframe on long it will take to arrive. The 7- to10-day turnaround time on each project does not include shipping time.
This photo book software has a very straightforward layout and is neatly organized. We were pleased at how easy it was to change the background patterns and images – just drag and drop. The only problem with this application is that a few of the tools are a little overly sensitive. Trying to rotate a picture resulted in a mess since the slightest movement the wrong way turned it backwards or upside-down. Selecting images was also difficult, and occasionally we couldn't get the software to allow us to select the images we wanted. This application has a lot going for it, but the controls can be a little difficult to get used to.
The help and support offered by UBuildABook for their photo book software is fairly useful. There is help offered within the application as well, but you have to have an internet connection in order to use it. These documents include useful information on using the application and tools, and they include step-by-step instructions on completing various tasks. Other online help includes FAQs, a telephone number and an email address. The FAQs had some practical information in them, including a shipping table, pricing and requirements for uploading files.
Overall, the UBuildABook photo book software has great design options, but the sharing options are limited. You can make a nice printed photo album or book, but you won't be able to share it electronically or print it yourself.
This application has a lot of designer and embellishment choices.
Your photo book can only be distributed by having them print it.
Limited distribution options mar an otherwise useful application.
